Why Does Guy Fieri Hate Eggs

Why Does Guy Fieri Hate Eggs? Let’s Crack the Case!

As a fan of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, you’ve no doubt seen Guy Fieri dig into spectacular dishes of all kinds.

At Taquiza in Miami Beach, he crunched a taco topped with grasshoppers. Vida Cantina In Portsmouth, New Hampshire served up a pig’s head platter, and at Tacopocalypse in Des Moines, Guy chowed down on fries topped with Korean Bulgogi.

There’s no doubt that Guy has an adventurous palate and plenty of enthusiasm for trying new foods, but there’s one food he won’t eat – and it may surprise you.

No, it’s not oxtail chili, fried octopus, or even duck tongue tacos – it’s the humble egg. A fried egg may be a diner staple, but you won’t see one on the Triple D star’s order ticket.

What Turned Guy Fieri Against Eggs?

There are a variety of reasons people might avoid eggs, from ethical concerns to worries about cholesterol levels. However, that’s not why you won’t see Guy eating them.

As a child, Guy enjoyed eggs – especially fried egg sandwiches on white bread, a special treat he could only enjoy at friends’ houses. This enthusiasm didn’t last, however, after a couple of seriously off-putting encounters with eggs.

His first shocking rendezvous with an egg came when he was 10. He cracked open an egg to find a fully-formed baby chick inside.

Most people would have sworn off eggs after that encounter, but not Guy. In fact, he only says that it gave him a better understanding of exactly how the chicken grows.

The final nail in the coffin was something much less dramatic; it was a bad experience with an over-cooked hard-boiled egg that turned him off of this breakfast staple forever.

We don’t blame him – a dry, chalky yolk isn’t our idea of a good time either. Besides, it’s no wonder that badly-cooked food was a source of major disturbance to someone who would grow up to be a chef.

Will Guy Eat Eggs in Other Dishes?

Hard-boiled eggs are off the menu for Fieri, but what about other preparations?

As it turns out, whether the “liquid chicken” is over easy, hard-boiled, or sunny-side up, the famous chef wants nothing to do with it.

In fact, while he and his wife raise chickens on their California property, he’s not even willing to eat the free-range, organic eggs from his own coop. That bad hard-boiled egg must have left a seriously bad taste in his mouth!

Guy hasn’t sworn off all egg-derived products, though. He will eat dressings that contain eggs, and he’s not opposed to mayonnaise – in fact, mayo is a main ingredient in the famous Donkey Sauce served at Guy’s restaurant.

Does Guy Eat Other Breakfast Foods?

So, if our favorite celebrity chef won’t be spotted eating eggs, what breakfast foods are typically on his plate?

In an interview with Extra Crispy, Fieri admitted that he isn’t a fan of breakfast food, as he’s typically too ‘on the go’ to sit down and enjoy them before he rushes out the door (we can’t say we’re surprised to hear that this energetic chef speeds out the door in a hurry each morning!).

There is one exception – Fieri has admitted that he loves the southern staple grits with redeye gravy. This gravy is famously made with strongly brewed black coffee, which perfectly suits Guy’s high-energy, perpetually caffeinated persona.

Is There Anything Else Guy Fieri Won’t Eat?

Over the course of over 400 episodes of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, Guy has enjoyed a wide variety of food, and there’s not much he won’t eat.

Along with eggs, you’re unlikely to see this Food Network star with a plate of liver, which he has referred to as “nasty.” (I can’t say I disagree with him there – sorry, Grandma!).

Those minor exceptions aside, there seems to be no limit to Fieri’s appetite for everything from comfort foods to exciting and strange food combinations.

At home, Fieri enjoys preparing foods influenced by cuisine from around the world and especially likes Asian dishes.

He also explains that his family eats plenty of vegetables and vegetable-based dishes, and even pegs Brussels sprouts as one of his favorite foods.

Bring on the Diners, but Hold the Eggs

We’ve all had a bad food experience that we just can’t forget, so we won’t hold it against Fieri if he can’t stomach this single food item.

After all, with delicious options tucked away in locations across the country, he’s not likely to run short of appetizing bites.
