Taco Bell-Style Skillet Crunchwrap

The folding looks fussy once and obvious forever after. Keep the fillings compact and the tostada dry, then toast the seam first so the skillet seals the whole package without toothpicks.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 lb 90-percent lean ground beef
  • 2 tbsp mild taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 burrito-size flour tortillas
  • 4 corn tostada shells
  • 1 cup warm nacho cheese sauce
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomato
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp neutral oil

Method

  1. Brown the beef in a skillet over medium heat for 7 minutes, breaking it into fine crumbles until it reaches 160°F.
  2. Stir in the taco seasoning and water and cook for 3 minutes until the liquid clings to the meat.
  3. Layer beef, nacho cheese, 1 tostada, sour cream, lettuce and tomato in the center of each tortilla, leaving a wide bare rim.
  4. Fold the tortilla edge toward the center in overlapping pleats and hold it seam-side down.
  5. Heat the oil in a clean skillet and toast each wrap seam-side down for 2 minutes, then flip and toast for 2 minutes until crisp.
