One-Dish Ham and Cheddar Hash Brown Bake

Frozen hash browns make a potato supper without peeling or slicing. Ham and cheddar supply most of the seasoning. Another packet won't improve it. The center needs to bubble before the top can be trusted.

Ingredients

  • 30 oz frozen shredded hash brown potatoes
  • 2 cups diced fully cooked ham
  • 2 cans 10.5 oz each condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F and place the frozen hash browns and diced ham in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  2. Whisk the condensed soup, milk, salt and black pepper together until smooth.
  3. Pour the soup mixture over the potatoes, add 1 cup cheddar and fold until evenly combined.
  4. Spread the mixture flat and scatter the remaining 1 cup cheddar over the top.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  6. Uncover and bake for 20 to 25 minutes more, until the center bubbles and the top browns, then rest for 10 minutes.
