Hot Fudge Pudding Dump Cake

Instant pudding mixed with milk creates a soft fudge layer beneath chocolate cake mix. Chocolate chips and butter make the top brownie-like rather than crumbly. This version is looser than fruit dump cake when hot, so it needs a longer rest and is best spooned rather than forced into sharp squares.

Ingredients

  • 2 boxes 3.9 oz each instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 4 cups cold whole milk
  • 1 box 15.25 oz chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 12 tbsp unsalted butter melted

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F and whisk the pudding mix with milk for 2 minutes in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  2. Let the pudding stand for 5 minutes, then sprinkle dry chocolate cake mix evenly over it.
  3. Scatter the chocolate chips over the mix and drizzle melted butter across the whole surface.
  4. Bake for 42 to 47 minutes until the top is set at the center but fudge still bubbles at the edges.
  5. Cool for at least 40 minutes before spooning into bowls.
