Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake

Cherry pie filling and chocolate cake mix bake into the easiest black-forest direction a pantry can take. Chocolate chips melt into the crust rather than forming a separate frosting. Use melted butter in thin passes so the dark dry mix is fully moistened; pale spots are harder to see on chocolate.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cans 21 oz each cherry pie filling
  • 1 box 15.25 oz chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 12 tbsp unsalted butter melted

Method
 

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F and spread the cherry pie filling in a 9-by-13-inch dish.
  2. Cover with an even layer of dry chocolate cake mix and scatter chocolate chips over it.
  3. Drizzle melted butter slowly across the entire surface without stirring.
  4. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until the chocolate crust is set and cherry filling bubbles through several cracks.
  5. Rest 30 minutes before serving.
