Apple Spice Pecan Dump Cake

Apple pie filling already supplies fruit, sugar and spice, so a spice cake mix deepens the cinnamon without a long ingredient list. Pecans toast across the buttery crust. Break up large apple slices before spreading them; even fruit makes an even base and prevents dry pockets above shallow spots.

  • 2 cans 21 oz each apple pie filling
  • 1 box 15.25 oz spice cake mix
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 12 tbsp unsalted butter melted

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F and cut any very large apple slices into smaller pieces in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the filling level and cover it with an even layer of dry spice cake mix.
  3. Scatter the pecans over the mix and drizzle melted butter slowly from edge to edge.
  4. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until the topping is dark golden and apple filling bubbles at the center.
  5. Rest 30 minutes before serving.
